MCN Motorcycle Show London 2024
Well folks, another London Motorcycle show has passed us by, showing some (not all) of the latest bikes coming our way in ’24.
For those of us who remember the glory days of the ‘80s and ‘90s Alexandra Palace Road and Race Exhibition, when you saw properly exotic homologated WSB racers for sale (Yamaha OWO1, Kawasaki ZXR750RRSP, Honda RC30, Ducati 888SP series and so on), you can’t but feel damn disappointed that the current London show is literally nowhere near as good as the Ally Pally show, but thinking about it, the motorcycle market is nowhere as big as it once was. There are virtually no London dealers left, nearly no riders under 30 left and certainly, the price has (by and large) gone up to the point that you have to really be at a certain stage in life to even afford a semi-decent bike these days.
You also have to accept that organisers (MCN in this case) won’t lay carpet down between each stand so that you get the full pikey effect, plus hoards of retailers selling old stock, spurious leather jackets and so on, just to really lower the industry ton down as much as they can.
However, if we just cast the above aside, it’s actually still fun to walk around, enjoy the atmosphere (which is always the same, exciting set-up) and ponder what to buy next. You’ll never tire from being around motorcyclists, ill as we all are with having/spending/buying all things motorcycle, so with that said, roll on the next show.
Oh yes, if anyone from MCN is reading this…carpet please. Doesn’t have to be lined with Persian rugs, just something to raise the image a bit.
Thanks y’all,
Roy
